Category: PhotoShopping? Or real Pictures?
Every now and then we get the occasional call before an order about photoshopping coral pictures. Are the pictures really like what they see online, have they been doctored? Other sites have photoshopped there corals and they didn't look like the coral they bought, etc. It is a lengthy list of complaints. I have been on their end to, with purchases that we have made as hobbyist before this venture. I must say that photoshopping takes time, and that really is not time that I have to waste. There is a feature somewhere in Photoshop to batch Photoshop all the pictures, but how would I know if they were all done to be accurate to what we see in the tank? That would me having to look at all the photos all over again, waste of time. Why not set up your camera correctly (some now come with aquarium and underwater settings!!!!) I started with a simple Sony camera and set the white balance until things looked as close to what I saw in the tank (and it looked just like looking in the tank when I was done). Well now I am in the water that much more I started looking into water proof and submersibles (there are some very reasonable priced one these days) Now days we use a simple cannon with those under water and aquarium setting (we use the aquarium) and an underwater housing. Everything is photographed as it looks to me through the water, there is very little work that needs to be done, there are a few colors that don't like to turn out quite as the should especially when next to a very vibrant color. In those cases I put the explanation of why the colors are better than they appear. But hear I can say that What You See Is What You Get! (WYSIWYG).
